Attention riders, here’s everything you need to know before we hit the trail...

We take safety seriously at all times from matching riders with the right horse, to using proper gear and following experienced guides.

It’s important to remember that horses are powerful animals. Like any adventure activity, riding carries risk. That’s why we take safety seriously. It’s important that you respect our horses, listen to our guides, and ride within your level of experience. This is the key to staying safe and making the most of your time on the trail.

To ensure our rides commence on time, please arrive 30 minutes before your tour departure time, for check-in and helmet fitting. Late arrivals may miss the ride, so please plan ahead. You’ll need to sign a quick waiver and let us know your riding experience, so we can match you with the right horse to ensure you have the best experience. Factors we take into consideration include your past riding experience, height and weight. Please note riders must be able to speak and understand English and be in good physical condition to participate. More details below.

Rider Experience ~ Matching Riders to Horses

  • Beginner. You’ve never been on a horse, or maybe just sat on one for a photo. No idea, mate. You’re here for a cruisy ride and some good views. No worries, we’ve got you covered.
  • Novice. You’ve ridden before, just not heaps. You’re comfy at a trot and you’d stay cool if something unexpected happens, like a cassowary dropping in for look.
  • Strong Intermediate. You’re in the saddle fairly often, could ride all day without pulling up sore, canter and probably wear your boots to Bunnings.
  • Advanced. This aint your first rodeo! Trot, canter, gallop, bareback, been there done that – you’re the real deal Jim Craig. Heads up we stay at a walk for this one, regardless of experience.

Rider Information ~ About You

  • Minimum Age: 10 years old. Children aged under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Maximum Weight: 95kg.
  • Our Horses: Are varying sizes and can accommodate petite guests and adults weighing up to 95kg. We will always match the horse with the rider.
  • Language Requirements: Riders must be able to speak and understand English and be in good physical condition to participate.
  • Expectations: We take safety seriously and match riders with horses, use proper gear and have experienced guides. It is an expectation that you will respect your horse and your guide at all times.

Cape Trib Horse Rides ~ What To Wear & Bring

  • Clothes: Jeans or long pants, t-shirt or long-sleeve shirt, socks and riding boots or closed in shoes. Insect repellent and sunscreen.
  • Helmets: Are mandatory and are supplied.
  • Water: Saddle bags have water bottle holders and a dry bag for small equipment, such as mobile phones for pictures.
  • Wet Weather: We still ride in the rain, so bring wet weather gear. We recommend a fitted rain jacket that doesn’t flap in the wind.
  • What Not To Bring: We recommend limited jewellery and no cameras on neck straps, as you will need two hands to ride a horse.

Please Note: You are welcome to get changed and showered after / before the ride, at the amenity block at our check-in office. Complimentary towels are provided for your use.

The guide at the back, Halle, was very experienced and provided great tips and helpful support when trying to manage my horse. Very clear instructions and she was very knowledgeable - with a lot of interesting facts and stories of the rainforest.
