Meet the Horses - From Racetrack to Rainforest

Our herd of 23 retired racehorses have been lovingly rehomed and retrained for a new life in tourism — trading the racetrack for the rainforest . They roam freely across 30 acres of natural paddocks with no fencing, like stepping into a real-life Jurassic Park (minus the dinosaurs!).  You can learn more about racehorse rehoming through the Queensland Off the Track program by Racing Queensland.

Highly intuitive, horses can sense our emotions, making them amazing companions both on and off the track. Take the time to get to know our horses before your ride — it’s the perfect way to bond and make your experience truly unforgettable.

Wilson

Foaled : 2018

Racing Name :  Fredley

Without a doubt the fatty of the herd — round as a ball and proud of it.

He might be round, but he’s surprisingly active — watch his legs, he loves to cross and stretch them out like he’s doing a bit of horse yoga. Quirky, calm, and impossible not to love, Wilson.

Brego

Foaled : 2019

Racing Name: Crown & Lion

Brego is the youngest of the crew — still very much our baby of the herd. He’s taken under the wing of Bella (who treats him like her own foal), which makes Dudley so jealous! — the three of them are always up to something. Brego is our water-loving boy and happiest when he’s splashing along the shoreline. You’ll know him by his brand — three waves

Bella & Dudley

Bella

Foaled : 2010

Racing Name: Bella Americana

Dudley

Foaled : 2009

Racing Name : Oakfield Avenger

These two are inseparable — always together, always side by side. Bella is our only girl in the herd (and Jacky’s favourite — she once rode her all the way to the Lions Den for a beer ).

Dudley is the oldest horse in the herd… which must be why he gets the girl! A real dude !

You’ll usually find these two hanging out together — often letting Brego tag along on their little adventures.

Jerry

Foaled : 2015

Racing Name : Craiglea Optima

Jerry comes from the same farm as Tom, and the two are good mates. Laid-back to the core, he’s so relaxed he’s been known to nod off on the job.

And don’t get him confused with our guide Gerry… he’s just as chill!

Blaze

Foaled:  2013

Racing Name :  Lattimer

Blaze gets his name from his obvious marking — hard to miss. A good, honest, beautiful horse with the brains to match.

He’s carried riders of all shapes and sizes — a true unicorn.

Tom

Foaled: 2012

Racing Name: Craiglea Aldi

Tom is one of our guide horses — trusted by the crew and known for his sensitive nature. With his dark coat and even darker personality, Tom carries a bit of mystery about him… like he knows something the rest of us don’t. Ask the guides — they’ll tell you Tom sees ghosts

Halo

Foaled: 2013

Breeding: by Sebring from Crimson Sakura

Racing Name: Crimson Halo

Halo was once a handy racehorse, but these days he’s well and truly retired from the fast life. He’s the slowest in the herd and very happy to keep it that way.

Best mates with Thorn, Halo is all about cruising — you might just need to give him a little encouragement to keep moving!

Hank

No name, no papers, no worries. Hank is a quarter horse who came to us from Scone NSW.

A true gentleman — Want to live your Pocahontas moment? Hank’s your man — no saddle, no fuss, no problem.

And yes… he knows he’s the smallest, cutest & most photogenic in the herd.

Hunter

Foaled: 2017

Breeding : By Shooting to Win from Feisty Belle

Racing Name : Target Practice

Hunter is a free spirit who needs a spirited rider to match. Always up the front, he’s usually leading the way with Tech and Stan — the Three Amigos!

Merry & Pippin

Foaled: 2018

Racing Name :  Bil Colyns

Merry is our show pony— he’ll bow on cue… as long as you’ve got a carrot ready! Super smart and rocking a beautiful coat & face, he knows exactly how to steal the show.

Foaled :2015

Racing Name : Haven Road

Pippin is retired, but we pull him out every now and then for a lap down the beach – we mostly keep him around for Merry — every star needs their supporting act.

Pumba

Foaled : 2016

Racing Name : Hyperion Star

One of the bigger of the herd, Pumba is a true gentle giant. He used to be guide Gerry’s lead horse, but we decided he was too good not to share.

Don’t be fooled by his grumpy face and big frame — he’s incredibly well behaved and happy to see you.

Technique

Foaled: 2015

Technique is our fearless leader and lead guide horse. First always in the lineup & first in at feed time, he rules the roost and knows it.

He keeps all our guides on their toes, especially when it comes to grooming time,  demanding respect and setting the standard. The boss of the herd & us !

Thorn

Foaled:  2012

Racing Name : Thornett

Don’t let his fiery red coat deceive you — Thorn is as sweet as they come. A seasoned member of the team since 2017, he knows his job inside out.

Best mates with Halo, you’ll usually find the two of them at the hay bar.

Stan

Foaled : 2013

Racing Name: Three Point Genius

Stan the man.

You’ll usually find him up front with Hunter and Technique ( the three amigos) Watch out ladies… Stan is as smooth in nature as name — you’ll fall in love with him before you know it.

Skipper

Foaled : 2015

Skipper is one of our guide horses — we reckon he’s what riding a kangaroo would feel like, bouncy and hopping along the whole way.

Ash

Foaled : 2016

Racing Name : Our Boy Ash

Our boy Ash — and really, everyone’s boy.An absolute gentleman .

Every now and then though, he gets a little enchanted by the rainforest and wanders off into the deep forest…he’s just taking it all in, the serenity!

Basil

Foaled : 2011

Racing Name : Hopefully Good

Basil’s a cruiser — swinging side to side with his own easy rhythm.

Maybe not the prettiest in the herd, but hands down one of the kindest. A feel-good ride – he’ll win you over the moment you hop on!

Zoomie

Foaled : 2015

Racing Name: Izumi

Breeding :  by Zoustar out of Magic Fingers

Zoomie by name… not by nature.

By Zoustar — one of Australia’s leading sires — he’s got the pedigree to match. While he didn’t quite fire on the track, he’s well and truly found his place on the beach.

A striking chestnut with a beautiful face and an even better walk, he’s all style and smooth cruising. You’ll love your ride on this well-bred gentleman.

Tank

Our biggest boy — standing at 16+ hands high and built like a tractor. Tank is an Australian Draught Horse, bred for strength, endurance, and tough Aussie conditions. These gentle giants were originally used as working horses, known for their calm nature and serious pulling power.

Still in training, but once he’s ready later this year, he’ll be the powerhouse of the team

Jack

Foaled: 2010

Racing Name: Dashwood

Jack is one of our senior lads — a true old soul of the herd. These days, he prefers the simple life, spending most of his time parked under a shady tree, watching the world go by. Easy-going, dependable, and happiest taking it slow — Jack is all about that laid-back Cape Trib life
